Minimum requirements to take driver education:
Student must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of class, or they may not enroll in driver education.
If the student is under suspension, or a suspension is pending, these matters must be resolved. They must pay their fee to be reinstated prior to enrolling in driver education.
Student must have at least 20/40 vision in one eye, with or without corrective lenses. If in doubt, please see an eye doctor and have them complete an MVE-103 (click here to download), available for download from this site. You may submit the MVE-103 with the application, and we will submit it to BMV medical for you.
Any medical condition listed below, must be cleared with a CR-24 (click here to download) medical form. This form must be completed by the applicants primary care physician, and cleared with BMV medical, prior to any on road driving time. You may submit the CR-24 with the application, and we will submit it to BMV medical for you.
Students under the age of 18 must have parental consent to take driver education. Also, a birth parent or legal guardian must be willing to sign consent for a minor to obtain a drivers license.
Required with the application is a $100.00 deposit.
The balance is due at the first class. Make check payable to Bert’s Driving School. An original birth certificate with two copies must accompany the application, and one copy of the social security card.
The original birth certificate will be returned to you the first night of class.
Course FEES: Call for current course fees. There is a $20.00 same day registration fee. Fee includes at least 30 hours of classroom instruction, and 10 hours of behind the wheel instruction. It also includes class handouts, testing materials, Maine Motorist Handbook, and Course Completion Certificate. There is a $25.00 permit fee in addition to the course fee.
